Susan is the owner and head trainer of Flat Creek Pet Care. She was born and raised in the area and graduated from Longwood College with a degree in Psychology and Community Counseling.
After working 10 years in the mental health field and volunteering with local animal rescue groups in the community, she fulfilled her dream of working with animals and opened Flat Creek Pet Care, a luxury pet boarding facility, in 2010.
Susan’s passion to help dog owners’ problem-solve behaviors and issues continued to grow during this endeavor, and she started offering dog training services in 2016.

We needed to find a Board and Train facility for our large 15-month old Bouvier, Toby, while I was having a knee replacement. Luckily our neighbor recommended Flat Creek Pet Care...what a godsend. Toby needed to learn to curb his enthusiasm when meeting new people and overcome his anxiety around other dogs. I can’t recommend this place enough. My puppy Poe had trouble being alone and in the crate along with calming his mind and walking normal on the leash. Susan did a great job in helping him with all of those things and he has been doing so well since he finished. Susan is the best!
Our chocolate lab - Zoey spent 10 days at Flat Creek working on basic obedience. Very hard for us to leave our fur baby for 10 days however Susan and her staff set our minds at ease. When we got Zoey back she had learned how to better listen and we understand what Zoey needed from us. Susan was very informative and patient with us.
