Helping Dogs To Be Their Best

Flat Creek Pet Care is a locally-owner dog training facility in Evington, Virginia. We believe in training dogs to be the best they can be in regards to their health, behaviors and relationships with others. Our balanced approach to dog training uses various methods and tools to create a clear communication system, so your dog understands clearly what to do and what not to do.

We believe in helping the dog owner create a strong bond with their dog through engagement, play and a balanced lifestyle. We emphasize educating the owners as much as the dog so that you have success with your dog listening and behaving with you as well.

Meet our team

Susan Moon

Susan is the owner and head trainer of Flat Creek Pet Care. She was born and raised in the area and graduated from Longwood College with a degree in Psychology and Community Counseling. After working 10 years in the mental health field and volunteering with local animal rescue groups in the community, she fulfilled her dream of working with animals and opened Flat Creek Pet Care, a luxury pet boarding facility, in 2010. Susan’s passion to help dog owners’ problem-solve behaviors and issues continued to grow during this endeavor, and she started offering dog training services in 2016.

She is a genuine animal lover and is passionate about learning all that she can in regards to animal behavior, training and welfare. She regularly attends seminars and conferences for professional development and ongoing education to better herself and the business. Susan remains committed to helping animals in need and provides assistance to several local rescue groups through fostering, donations, evaluations and training when able. In her free time, you can find her spending time with her personal pets, walking trails, gardening, reading or simply enjoying the outdoors.

Kristin Degnan

Kristin joined Flat Creek Pet Care in June of 2019, shortly after relocating to the area. Kristin is an outdoor enthusiast and in her free time you can find her hiking in the mountains, relaxing in a hammock, white water canoeing, fishing, or snowboarding. She has a Biology degree with a minor in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Tech. After working at a vet clinic for a year, Kristin realized veterinary medicine wasn’t the route she wanted to take. Determined to make a career out of something involving dogs, she accepted a position as a Research and Development Lab Specialist on the Spectrum Brands Animal Nutrition team. Kristin specialized in formulating rawhide free dog treats and conducted rawhide digestion testing.

During this time, she enrolled in private lessons to e-collar train her own Australian Shepherd. This is where she caught training fever! Kristin’s science background allows her to understand and appreciate all aspects of the learning process and her love for dogs makes the job fun and rewarding. Her favorite cases are the ones involving nervous dogs who need help with confidence. She is also very interested in trick training for dogs who are highly driven and need extra mental stimulation.
